Norfolk & Western Class J 611 4-8-4 Profile Magnet.
The 611 was built in 1950 in the N&W Roanoke Shops. During its 9 year career, the 611 pulled N&W's famous passenger trains such as the Powhatan Arrow, the Pocahontas, the Birmingham, and the Cavalier. The 611 was recognized in 1984 as a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark. Known as "The Spirit of Roanoke" the 611 was restored in 2014/15 to participate in the Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam Program and is still an active running steam locomotive for the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
Wonderful picture of the 611 but the magnet is a little warped and doesn’t stay. It drops to one side or the other depending on which side is touching metal.
